A message to all educators and therapists Part 1

Sometimes when I
hear you talking about
one of our girls
it seems like you think
they need to be
fixed.
Or normalized.
Whatever that means.

I wonder what you
think when you look
at our girls.
I wonder if we're
even close to being
on the same page
when it comes to them.

You see...
When I look at our girls
I don't see little projects
that need to be fixed.
Or normalized.

 I see two little
girls who are
happy,
whole,
strong
and
determined.

That's how I see them.
That's how I wish you
would see them.

Let's work together
to help our girls
be the absolute
best they can be.

Please stop trying
to "fix" them.

They are not broken.
Different?
Yes.
Less than?
Not even close.

Signed,

One proud mama

  2. So heartfelt! For those of us in therapy practice - Do you have alternative terms we should use? I don't say "fix" or "normalize" and am always looking for ways to make sure parents realize I'm not there to fix, but to support. Thanks!
